ULKATCHO NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE (NHL) GOALIE CAREY PRICE BORN

Carey, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, son of a former Ulkatcho First Nation chief (mother), played first for the Western Hockey League (HL) Tri-City Americans in 2002. Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens (Habs) in 2005, by 2007, he’d won goaltending awards in the Western & Canadian HLs. In 2007, Price led the Habs’ American HL affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs to the Calder Cup and was Playoff Most Valuable Player (MVP). Joining the Habs in 2007-08, Carey made the NHL All-Rookie Team and was on the 2009, 2011 & 2012 All Star teams. In 2015–16, he led in Goals Against (GA) Average (1.96), save % (.933), wins (44) and won the Ted Lindsay Award (Player’s Assn. MVP), and Hart Memorial (NHL MVP), Vezina (best goalie) & Wm. M. Jennings (least GA—tie) trophies—only the 2nd player to do so in 1 season. A knee injury hampered Price thereafter. He retired in 2022. Internationally, Carey played for Canada in several junior hockey tourneys, the 2014 Winter Olympics (Gold); and World Cup Of Hockey (title).
