ATHABASCAN LEGISLATOR GEORGIANNA LINCOLN BORN

Georgianna, born in Rampart, Alaska, attended the University of Alaska (AK), Fairbanks. A member of the AK Commission on Judicial Conduct (1984-90), she served in both the AK House of Representatives (1991-92) & Senate (1993-2005) –the 1st Native woman elected to the State Senate. She was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Congress in 1996. Lincoln worked to secure AK Native land claims in the 1970s and developed health and education programs in her region in the 1980s. She also served on the board of the Native regional Doyon Corporation for 33 years and was its Chair from 2005-08. A mentor for women across the state within and outside of the Native community, Georgianna also worked as the Executive Director of the Fairbanks Native Association, Director at Tanana Chiefs Conference, Trustee of the First Alaskans Institute, and a former board member to AK Native Heritage Center. Lincoln was inducted into the AK Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010.
