TLINGIT/ATHABASCAN/YUP’IK ARCTIC OLYMPIAN KAAYAK’W (KYLE WORL) BORN

Kyle is an award-winning Arctic Sports athlete & coach. Arctic Sports, a collection of Indigenous games based on hunting and survival skills of the north, involves athletes from across the Arctic and elsewhere in events such as Native Youth Olympics (NYOs), World Eskimo Indian Olympics (WEIOs), and Arctic Winter Games. Worl has, over his 13-year career, won over 100 medals. More importantly, he is credited with spurring a renaissance in Arctic Sports in southeast Alaska as the 1st coach for Juneau in over 25 years to bring a team to the NYOs (2018). Worl works with the Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska as the Wellness Coordinator, overseeing a region-wide Traditional Games program. Accolades include: 2018 & 2019 NYO Games Alaska Healthy Coach Award; 2016-18 & 2021 WEIOs Outstanding Athlete Award; and induction into the North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. He also was featured in October 2019 Men’s Health Magazine.
