CREE COUNTRY SINGER SHANE YELLOWBIRD BORN

Shane, born in Hobbema, Alberta, sang to cure his stutter. It led to a country music career. His debut album, Life Is Calling My Name (2006), included singles Beautiful Concept & Pickup Truck. At the 2006 Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards (APCMA), he won Best New Artist with Single of the Year & Best Video (Beautiful Concept). In 2007: Pickup Truck hit Top 5 on the Canadian Country Singles chart. Shane also was: Canada’s representative at the 4th Annual Global Artist Party; Chevy Trucks Rising Star of the Year; APCMA’s Entertainer of the Year, Best Country CD & Best Video honors, Canadian Country Music Awards; and Best Male Artist, Best Country Album, and Album of the Year, Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. In 2008, he was nominated for a Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. His 2nd album, It’s About Time, was released in 2009. He won 2 Native American Music Awards for Best Country Recording: Life Is Calling My Name (2011) & It’s About Time (2012). Shane died April 25, 2022, in Calgary.
