MUSCOGEE (CREEK) ARTIST, DANCER, FLAUTIST LUMHEE HOLOT-TEE (ACEE BLUE EAGLE) DIED

Born Alexander McIntosh, August 16, 1909, near Anadarko, Oklahoma (OK), “Acee” was a nickname; “Blue Eagle” a traditional family surname. After Haskell Institute & Indian Agricultural School (Chilocco, OK), he attended Bacone College & University (Univ.) of OK (OU). In 1932, with his bachelor of fine arts degree from OU, he lectured on Indian art at Oxford Univ, and participated in the art competition at the Summer Olympics. In 1938, Acee helped establish Bacone’s art department & earned national notice at Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, Acee taught art and was in residence at OK State Univ. until his death. His murals are in colleges, libraries & federal buildings. Collections: Gilcrease, Philbrook, Ethiopian, Creek Indian Museums; OK Historical Society; Museum of New Mexico; and Institute of American Indian Art. Honors: Indian Hall of Fame; OK & International Who’s Who; “1958 Outstanding Indian in the U.S.; medal from Haile Selassie.
