ACADIAN MÉTIS ARTIST HÉLÈNE BOUDREAU BORN

Hélène, born in Petit de Grat, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, earned a degree in biology from Dalhousie University. She worked for the Canadian Parks Service & trained as a Registered Respiratory Therapist before moving to Ontario where she began her career as a children’s author. In 2008, Hélène published Acadian Star which was nominated for the 2009/2010 Hackmatack Children’s Choice Award & took 2nd place in the 2008 Writers Federation of New Brunswick Literary Competition. In 2010, Hélène published: KEEP OUT!, Water Hazards, and Real Mermaids Don’t Wear Toe Rings. The latter was a 2011 Crystal Kite Member Choice (CKMC) Award Finalist & prequel to Real Mermaids Don’t Hold Their Breath (2012), Real Mermaids Don’t Have Two Left Feet (2013), and Real Mermaids Don’t Sell Seashells (2014). In 2013, she published Evangeline and I Dare You Not To Yawn which won both the 2013 Parents’ Choice 2014 CKMC Awards. She is Writers’ Union of Canada member.
