CREE ACTOR DIRECTOR MICHAEL GREYEYES BORN

Greyeyes, born in Qu’Appelle Valley, Saskatchewan, is Plains Cree from the Muskeg Lake First Nation. A 1984 National Ballet School graduate, Michael became a Corps de Ballet member of the National Ballet of Canada in 1987 and a soloist with New York’s Feld Ballet before a leg injury led him toward acting. In 1993, his role in TNT’s Geronimo led to TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent; Walker, Texas Ranger; Numb3rs; Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman; Millennium; and several miniseries. Films include: Skinwalkers, Smoke Signals, Woman Walks Ahead, Firestarter, Blood Quantum, and the title role in Crazy Horse. He earned a master’s degree in fine arts from Kent State University (2003) & founded Signal Theatre (2010). In 2017, Michael played in AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. His work in Blood Quantum earned Best Actor, 2021 Canadian Screen Awards. Michael was featured in the CBC documentary, He Who Dreams: Michael on the Powwow Trail and, in 2023, was a panelist on CBC’s program Canada Reads.
