MÉTIS OLYMPIC CURLER CAROLYN DARBYSHIRE-McRORY (ALSO McRORIE) BORN

Carolyn, born in Arbourg, Manitoba (MB), began curling at age 11. Playing with her mother in 1985, the team won the provincial title and represented MB in the Canadian Women’s National Tournament of Hearts. Known for her distinctive “Manitoba tuck” delivery using a corn broom while delivering the rock, she moved to Calgary, competed for an Olympic Trials spot in 2001, and played all positions on mixed and ladies’ teams. Derbyshire-McRory was with Team Bernard in 2006 as it won 2 provincial championships, the Olympic Trials, and Silver Medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. In 2018, she coached a women’s team in Alberta to its first provincial title and an Olympic Trials spot. Later that year, Carolyn became head coach for China’s National women’s curling teams. Carolyn now coaches junior teams. In 2020, she went on to win the Senior Provincial Championship. Darbyshire-McRory was inducted into the North American Indigenous Hall of Fame (IHOF) in 2022 and MBIHOF in 2023.
