APACHE GUITARIST STEVIE SALAS BORN

Salas, born in Oceanside, California, raised in San Diego, is of Mescalero Apache heritage. Stevie went to high school in Oceanside where, at age 15, he picked up his 1st guitar and chose music over the Coast Guard. He was first spotted by George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic and was soon touring with Rod Stewart and, in 2001, Mick Jagger. Salas has produced bands like Australia’s Yothu Yindi with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal members. In 2017, Stevie produced the documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World, chronicling artists of Indigenous heritage such as Link Wray, Robbie Robertson, Randy Castillo, and Jimi Hendrix. He followed that up with a film about the Standing Rock conflict. In 2019, Stevie was in the 2019 David Bowie Alumni Tour. During 2020, he worked with actor Graham Greene, who narrated a new short documentary called The Water Walker. In 2022, Stevie toured with MC5 main man Wayne Kramer in a touring project called We Are All MC5.
