ARGENTINE GUARANI WRITER ARTIST MIRTA TOLEDO BORN

Mirta, born in Buenos Aires, attended the National School of Fine Arts (FA) Prilidiano Pueyrredón, earned FA degrees from the School of FA Manuel Belgrano (Bachelor’s, 1973), and the National University Institute of the Arts (Master’s, 2011). Toledo’s residencies included a 2002 artist in residence at Stone Metal Press, San Antonio, Texas (TX). Mirta has exhibited internationally and won 23 awards for drawings & sculptures. In 1997, she was named Outstanding Woman in the Arts and awarded the Estrella Award by the Hispanic Women’s Network of TX. In 2007, back in Argentina, she participated in mail art. In 2011, her print The tree of life: portrait of my parents was featured at an exhibit sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Argentina together with The Smithsonian Latino Center and Fundación OSDE. As an author, she has published a novel, La Semilla Elemental (1993), short story, Jacinto, a compilation of other short stories in Dulce de Leche (1996), and children’s story, Chamamé in the air (2006).
