MI’KMAQ EVERETT SANIPASS BORN–NHL PLAYER
Born in Elsipogtog First Nation, New Brunswick (NB), Everett began his hockey career in Richibucto, NB. After Midget hockey, he played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and competed in the 1985 Memorial Cup. In 1987, Sanipass was chosen to play on Team Canada in Czechoslovakia for the World Junior Hockey Championship. From this, he was drafted 14th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1986. He played most of 4 seasons with the Blackhawks and 2 with the Quebec Nordiques. He was enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
