ACTOR JOSEPH JASON NAMAKAEHA MOMOA BORN

Raised in Norwalk, Iowa, by his mother, Jason was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is of Native Hawaiian descent. After high school, he moved to Hawaii and landed a lead role in the TV series Baywatch (1989). In 1999, after the show ended, Jason traveled around the world before moving to Los Angeles. In 2004, he was the popular character “Ronon Dex” in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis (2004), and appeared in the Emmy-nominated HBO series Game of Thrones (2011-12), playing the Dothraki king, Khal Drogo. His production company, Pride of Gypsies, has allowed him to direct a couple of short films and a feature film, Road to Paloma (2014). He has more-recently portrayed Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), and Aquaman (2018). Mamoa has also played Declan Harp in the Discovery Channel historical drama series Frontier (2016–2018), and Baba Voss in the Apple TV+ science fiction series See (2019–present).
