MAYA KING AHKAL MO’ NAHB’ II IS BORN

Also known as Chaacal II and Akul Anab II, Ahkal Mo’ Nahb II was an ajaw (chief) of the Maya city-state of Palenque. Grandson of his namesake, Ahkal Mo’ Nahb I, his family relationship to his predecessor K’an Joy Chitam I remains unclear. His successor, Kan Bahlam I, was probably his younger brother. He ascended the throne on May 2, 565, 85 days after the death of his predecessor. His short reign ended with his death on July 21, 570, apparently without leaving an heir. The throne remained vacant almost two years before Kan Balam I was officially enthroned as the new ruler in April 572.
