CREE NHL PLAYER/COACH CRAIG BERUBE BORN

Berube, born in Calahoo, Alberta, of Cree descent, played in the Western Hockey League & for the American Hockey League (AHL) Hershey Bears before joining the Philadelphia Flyers in late 1987. Known as an “enforcer,” from 1989-91 Craig was in the top 10 in Penalty Minutes (PMs). Berube spent 1991-93 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, and finally the Washington Capitals for whom he played the next 6 seasons. From 1999-2003, he played for the Flyers, Capitals, New York Islanders & Flames. In all, he played 1054 NHL regular season games amassing 3,149 career PMs–7th all-time. Starting in 2003 as Player-assistant coach (AC) of the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms, his coaching career includes: AC, Flyers (2006); head coach (HC), Phantoms (2007-13); HC, Flyers (2013-15); HC, Chicago Wolves, AHL (2016); AHC, St. Louis Blues (2017) and interim HC (2018) leading the team to its 1st Stanley Cup title. In 2019, Craig was officially named HC. His contract has been extended through the 2024-2025 season.
