SAC AND FOX ACTOR & HEREDITARY CHIEF SAGINAW GRANT BORN

Grant, born in Pawnee, Oklahoma (OK), was raised in Cushing, OK. A member & hereditary chief of the Sac and Fox Nation of OK, his mother was of Iowa & Otoe-Missouria heritage. Saginaw attended Ponca Military Academy, Ponca City, OK and was a U.S. Marine in the Korean War. His acting career began when offered a role in a car commercial. He appeared in several TV shows including Nash Bridges, Baywatch, Saving Grace & Breaking Bad. His most notable movie role was as Chief Big Bear in The Lone Ranger, with Johnny Depp (2013). He was an award-winning Pow Wow dancer, motivational speaker, musician, and member of the American Indian Advisory Board, San Diego International Film Festival (SDIFF). He received the American Legacy (SDIFF), Lifetime Achievement (Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation), and Living Legend Award (Native American Music, NAMA) Awards. His album Don’t Let the Drums Go Silent was NAMA’s 2018 Record of the Year. Grant died in Los Angeles, on July 27, 2021.
